LogMeIn and Symantec Endpoint Protection

If you have both LogMeIn and Symantec Endpoint Protection on the same machine, you might see a CommercialApps.2 “log only” popup alert (with scan type flagged as TrueScan). It has to be noted that the same alert is possible to occur on similar software, such as a VNC application. Although CommercialApps.2 appears on Symantec’s list of threats and risks, there is not any further information on the site about it.

The alert is generated only on the client log, thus it is not visible on the server log. In order to disable it:
– Open “Symantec Endpoint Protection” and choose the “Change Settings” section.
– Click on “Configure Settings” next to “Centralized Exceptions”.

  • At “User-defined Exceptions”, I click “Add > TruScan(TM) Exception” and then point to the LogMeIn executable (ie. C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LogMeIn.exe).

Further information can be found here, under the “Creating exceptions for TruScan proactive threat scans” section.
